Nate J. Matthews, Jr. 75, of Toledo, OH, died, Thursday, January 18, 2018, at The Toledo Hospital. Born January 13, 1943, in Florence, Arizona, he was the son of Nate and Ruth (Rice) Matthews, Sr. A 1961 graduate from Woodward High School, Nate retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 20 years. He was stationed in Germany, Japan, Texas, England and Florida. He then was employed by Lake Erie Medical and Surgical in Temperance for over 20 years. Nate married Carol O. Zeiler on April 19, 1968. He enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles and was an avid Ohio State Fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol; children, Connie (Brad) Matthews – Reynolds, Todd (Molly) Matthews and Carey (Jim Merli) Matthews; sister, Carol L. Matthews; grandchildren, Andrea, Kaci, Norwyn and a large extended family. Nate was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank “Skip” Matthews.
Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 26, 2018. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
